1. WHAT ARE THE DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM THE ROME FIUMICINO AIRPORT TO THE VILLA? As you exit the airport look for the sign which says Roma-Fiumicino "autostrada". Head in the direction of Civitavecchia. You will go approximately 30-35 km before you reach the exit for S.Severa-S.Marinella. Follow the sign for SANTA MARINELLA (the road will split) be sure to stay to the right on Via Aurelia. You will drive for about 6km. On your left, you will see a gas station (it is an "IP"), immediately following that, you will turn RIGHT on Via IV Novembre. You will come to a traffic light which is right in front of a small tunnel. You will go under the tunnel and turn left. Follow the road and make sure you continue going "straight" and you do not turn left at the first chance you have or you will be going in the wrong way on a one way street (pay attention to the street signal as they are not as big as in USA). After a very steep hill turn left on via Montenegro (it will be the second street on your left). You will drive to the end of this road and turn left one more time (via IV Novembre).Within less than 500 meters you will see Via San Michele on the left. Villa Rosalba is located on the corner of Via San Michele and Via IV Novembre. We suggest you park on Via IV Novembre,in the front of the Villa, since the side road is very narrow.
2. HOW DO WE GET TO THE VILLA FROM ROME CIAMPINO AIRPORT? If you do not have a car, there is bus transportation every 30 minutes. The bus will take you to the Termini station, in central Rome. From Termini, the train will take you directly to Santa Marinella. The approximate travel time, once on the bus to the Termini station is a half hour. From there, it will be a 30 minute train ride to Santa Marinella. Once you have arrived into Santa Marinella, it will be about a 5 minute walk to the Villa. If traveling by car, as you exit the airport turn right and follow the sign for Roma. Go about a mile and you will see a sign which reads "raccordo anulare". At that point follow the sign that says "Aereoporto Leonardo da Vinci " and "autostrada Roma-Civitavecchia" after 8-10 kilometers you will see a sign again that says "Aeroporto Leonardo da Vinci" after 4-5 kilometers take a right towards the highway (autostrada) Roma- Civitavecchia. From this point please refer to directions from FAQ # 1 (above).
3. HOW DO WE GET TO THE VILLA FROM THE FIUMICINO AIRPORT VIA THE TRAIN? To and from the Rome-Fiumicino airport- you will need to take the train (terminal inside airport) to Termini station. From there you can purchase a ticket to Santa Marinella (they run every 30 minutes). The ride is approximately 40 minutes. When you get off the train, stay to the right ( You will see a set of stairs), walk up the stairs and you will see Via IV Novembre (street sign). Turn right on Via IV Novembre and walk approximately 3 minutes and you will see a hand painted sign on the wall that says "Villa Rosalba". Turn left on that road which is Via San Michele. The first house on the left is Villa Rosalba and you will see another sign for it, which you can't miss.
4. WHO WILL BE MEETING US WHEN WE ARRIVE ? Your hosts Rosalba & Alvaro have learned some good English over the years and will be awaiting your arrival to greet you with the key and get you settled into the Villa.
5. ARE THERE FOOD RESTAURANTS CLOSE TO THE VILLA? As for food, please be sure you bring your appetite, Rosalba will have a surprise for you (One of her famous dishes), on the day of your arrival. --you will find every kind of food shop on Via Aurelia (the main street along the coast)including fresh made pasta, deli, bakery, pastry shop, fruit all of prime quality. -- As for restaurants - you have hit the jackpot and have quite a large selection in walking distance. We recommend the fresh local seafood- "risotto alla pescatora" or "grilled fish" are great dishes. If you are not a seafood lover, you can't go wrong with the classic italian pasta dishes. -- All restaurants are reasonably priced with very good food and inexpensive table wine. -- if you are with family and on a budget there are some great take out Pizzeria's and a lot of the coffee shops have quick sandwiches. All of the shops and restaurants are a brief walk to the center of Santa Marinella(approx 5 mins). Also- there is a supermarket just a few blocks away. Inside of Rome you will have quite a diverse selection from McDonalds to classic italian restaurants.
6. HOW DO WE EXPERIENCE A TRUE TASTE OF ITALY??? Because we really love to spoil our customers, we want to get there vacation off to a great start! We guarantee your tastebuds a treat they will never forget. Upon your arrival date, you will have a home made meal waiting for you in your very own oven, cooked by Rosalba herself...straight from her kitchen to yours! Trust me, Its a hit you will never forget!!! Buon Appetito!!!
7. HOW DO WE ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL BEACH OF SANTA MARINELLA? For those that choose to stay during the month's of June-September, you will have the convenience of reserving your own umbrella's/chair's/and daily entrance fee. There is a special pricing negotiated for Villa Rosalba guests (no extra fee's involved). Payment is collected in advance. We are proud to say- Santa Marinella is considered one of the most beautiful and healthy bathing resort of the Tirrenian Sea and it is worthy of the appellation: Pearl of the Tirreno. The air is amazingly clean and healthful as is the sea water.
8. WHAT IF WE WANT TO RENT A CAR LOCALLY IN SANTA MARINELLA ONCE WE ARRIVE? The closest car rental location is in Civitavecchia which is 10 minutes away by train or car. The car company is with Hertz rent a car (address-Viale della Repubblica #10/A, Civitavecchia 00053 ph #0766-22998 dialed in Italy) - .TIP--It is a good idea to pre-book prior to your vacation with your travel agent.
9. WHEN SPENDING A DAY IN ROME TOURING- WHEN IS THE LAST TRAIN RETURNING BACK TO SANTA MARINELLA? Please be sure to make a mental note that the last train back to Santa Marinella from Rome is at 10p.m. There are plenty of hotels near the train station if an overnight is necessary.
10. WHAT IS THE APPROXIMATE PRICING BY TRAIN TO ROME? The best deal is to buy a "BIRG" which costs 7Euro but buys round trip for a day plus all transportation in Rome-- buses, trams, subway.A one way ticket is 3.70euro.
11. HOW CLOSE IS THE TRAIN STATION TO THE VILLA? The train station is across the street, down two blocks and then a half flight of stairs and you are there. Trains go every 30 minutes. You will be in Rome within 45 minutes (time can vary according your destination).
12. CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE SURROUNDING AREA IN SANTA MARINELLA? Santa Marinella developed first as a flower growing region for Rome and, at the turn of the century, it developed as a health resort because the air is amazingly clean and healthful as is the sea water. It is a quiet, peaceful, and extremely safe area. The villa is situated in a large garden made beautiful by the owners Rosalba & Alvaro.They have roses, hibiscus,fruit trees, plus three huge magnolias that shade the balcony and in springtime are spectacular! There is also an open kitchen and a barbecue that you are welcome to use. Don't forget a lovely walk by the sea- have a swim at the beach or dine at one of the many excellent restaurants.
13. HOW DO I GET FROM THE VILLA TO FLORENCE?
The easiest and fastest way is to take the train (conveniently located to the villa) to ROME-Termini(main station) and from Termini take the train directly to Florence-Santa Maria Novella (downtown). TIP--be sure to take the EUROSTAR (not inter-city) from Rome to Florence. It is more cost effective and a much faster way to get there. The cost is 3.70euro per person to Rome and approximately 29euro (2nd class)or 42euro (first class) from Rome to Florence. We do not recommend traveling to Florence by car as the roads can be very tricky and dangerous (unless you are experienced with driving in Europe).
